Capt. Gus Gustafson
Striper Guide Captain Gus Gustafson specializes in
striper fishing on Lake Norman. He has almost sixty years of
fishing experience in both fresh and saltwater. His fishing career
began as a first mate with various licensed boat captains on
saltwater charter boats in the 1950's.
Gus has fished Lake Norman since its inception in
the early 1960's. He recently completed the necessary requirements
to obtain his USCG Captain's License and expects the document to be
forthcoming in early spring, 2005.
He enjoys sharing his fishing knowledge and boating
experience with others. In addition to operating the "premier
fishing guide service on Lake Norman," he is also an outdoor
columnist. His weekly column, "Fishing with Capt. Gus!" is
published regularly and read by thousands in the Charlotte
Observer's (Iredell Neighbors Section), News @ Norman, The Lincoln
Times-News, and The Observer News Enterprise. At times, the article
also appears in The Salisbury Post, The Lake Norman Times and The
Huntersville Herald. Additional columns and stories are written,
some upon request, for publication in The Lake Norman Official
Visitors Guide, The Piedmont Pilot, The Central Piedmont Outdoors
Magazine, The Connection, Drift Magazine and In The Spotlight

Lake Norman Ventures, Inc. is a multi-dimensional
company owned and operated by Gus. It not only provides fishing
guide services, but clients can opt to charter a tour of Lake Norman
from a luxurious twenty five foot pontoon boat.
Innovative and/or useful boating and fishing
products, plus gift certificates can be purchased online from the
website. Products include, planer boards, striper fishing floats,
souvenirs, and topographic area lake maps.
Gus provides speeches and demonstrations to clubs
and organizations about lake issues and boater safety. He conducts
fishing clinics and seminars at local establishments and at fishing
and boating expos.
He is a past and the current President of the Lake
Norman Striper Swipers, a member of the Carolina's Catfish Club, a
consultant for the Lake Norman Marine Commission, a Board of
Director member of the Lake Norman Convention and Visitors Bureau,
and a member of both the Lake Norman and the Mooresville Chambers of
